Hey y’all, it’s me — LaMecca, the sassy, frugal queen behind African Essentials, and this is my real story.

For as long as I can remember, eczema had me in a chokehold. We’re talking raw, itchy, flaky patches that turned my arms, neck, and face into a war zone. I’d wake up scratching in my sleep, embarrassed to raise my hand in meetings, and straight-up avoiding mirrors because the girl staring back looked nothing like the confident woman I knew I was. Doctor visits, steroid creams, $80 jars of “miracle” lotion — none of it worked. I was miserable, hiding under long sleeves even in Virginia summer heat, and my confidence was in the dirt.

Then one day I got fed up. I’m too sassy to stay defeated and way too frugal to keep throwing money at stuff that didn’t deliver. So I did what any budget-savvy sister would do: I started researching the ingredients our ancestors actually used.
